Quote:
“True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future, not to amuse ourselves with either hopes or fears but to rest satisfied with what we have, which is sufficient, for he that is so wants nothing. The greatest blessings of mankind are within us and within our reach. A wise man is content with his lot, whatever it may be, without wishing for what he has not.” – Seneca
Reflection:
I will be honest and admit that I’m constantly trying to arrange the future. That is my go-to. I’d like to be able to control it. If I could, think about how much worry I could eliminate. I could rest easy knowing that the future is under control.
But life doesn’t work that way.
No matter how hard I try, I can’t set up circumstances to continually fit my preferences. I can’t stop the bad things or guarantee the good things. I’ve tried.
So, I must resign myself to this moment. Whatever is, is okay with me. I will notice it. I will enjoy it. I will drink it in.
The angst and anxiety and stress that come with trying to control the uncontrollable aren’t worth it.
I can control how I’ll live today.
Tomorrow, today will be yesterday. And tomorrow, I’ll have another today. So I’ll make the most of today so that tomorrow’s yesterday will be the greatest, the very best day.
