God is Here, Now
Originally a Facebook post for First Presbyterian Church
God is here, now.

Take a long, slow breath.
Lift your eyes to the horizon or something in the distance.
Sometimes in our day-to-day, our vision gets narrowed.
We can miss Love surrounding and sustaining our very existence.

Maybe today is a hard day.
We’re so sorry, some days just stink.
You have a community of people praying for you
and cheering you on.
Know that you’re not alone.
If you need help, please reach out.

Maybe today is a great day.
That’s amazing. We’re so happy for you.
You have a community of people celebrating with you.
Know that you are not alone.
If you feel comfortable sharing, let us know.

Maybe today is a mixed bag.
The bad and the good seem to be interwoven with each passing moment and situation.
God is in the tangled mess of our lives.
In the ups and the downs,
Grace can show up in unexpected ways.

Maybe today, you’re feeling called.
There is injustice seemingly everywhere we look.
There is unrest and division in our politics and in our homes.
The outcast and the downtrodden are ignored.
The hurt and the broken are turned away.

Yet, as you survey the hardship, you feel a sense of call.
Justice is ahead of you,
pulling you toward the “least of these.”
Keep listening, turn your ear to the still, small voice.
Turn your ear to the cries of God’s people.
Step into the unknown
and feel yourself pulled into the struggle for a just world.
The Kingdom of God is at hand.

God is here, now.
Take a breath.
Turn your awareness to the deep wells
of grace, love, justice, and joy that are always beside you.

God is here, now.
